North to Alaska: What to expect on an Alaskan Cruise

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

When many people think of an Alaskan cruise, they think of freezing-cold weather, glaciers, and bears. Of course, visitors are likely to experience all of the above on an Alaskan cruise, but there is so much more!

My husband and I checked Alaska off our bucket list last May, and it truly was a trip of a lifetime! Here's what you can expect on your cruise to Alaska.

Expect to see a wide variety of wildlife.

Not only will you have an opportunity to spot bears, but you may also encounter rare deer, exotic seabirds, moose, bald eagles, Alaskan salmon, harbor seals, sea lions, and even humpback whales!

The first time we saw a humpback whale was while we were eating lunch at the buffet. Everyone in the restaurant jumped up and ran to the windows to get a better view. You would have thought George Straight just showed up! Little did we know that there would be many more sightings during our trip.

While the whales were hard to get on film, the seals were easy! They could be found sunning themselves on anything that floated.

Expect to reserve a stateroom with a balcony.

You won’t regret it. Sure, you can stand out on the ship’s deck to view glaciers and wildlife as you drift by, but there’s nothing quite as phenomenal as the views from your own private balcony – while sipping hot cocoa underneath a cozy blanket!

Expect to book big ticket excursions.

  • Flying in a helicopter to the top of a glacier where you go dog sledding? Yes!

  • Hiking a 1000-year forest and then whitewater rafting? Yes!

  • Salmon fishing and cooking your catch on the side of a river? Yes!

  • Whale watching from a private boat? Yes!

Do them all! I promise you won't regret it... unless you didn't budget for them.

Are you ready to go?

There's a reason why Alaska is a bucket list destination.. It really is everything you have dreamed it is!

If you're considering going during the 2023 season, the time to book is now! As an Alaskan Cruise Expert with Princess Cruise Line, I can help you navigate the waters so you have smooth sailing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I wish you well. I wish you safe and happy travels. And I can't wait to see you under a Canopy of Stars.
